Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado boasts amazing natural acoustics that are truly remarkable. Witnessing an outdoor rock concert here should be on everyone’s bucket list.
At first, Red Rocks started when local rancher Brisben Walker began inviting musicians to perform on an informal platform situated between Ship and Creation Rock – shows which became unforgettable as an entertainment venue. When President Franklin Roosevelt introduced federal programs offering work relief to young unemployed men in Denver Parks’ management, an opportunity presented itself for Red Rocks to become an outdoor theater permanently; with assistance from Civilian Conservation Corps and Work Projects Administration. Finally architect Burnham Hoyt designed an amphitheater which still stands today!
Since its founding, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has expanded to encompass nearly every musician who ever graced a stage – from The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen to Jimi Hendrix and Grateful Dead. Due to its unparalleled acoustics, one of the first live albums was recorded here.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is one of the world’s natural marvels and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2007. With its dramatic rock backdrop and panoramic views that include millions of stars at nightfall, Red Rocks attracts millions of visitors each year for shows or walks through its rock formations; not forgetting nearby Dinosaur Ridge which allows guests to view dinosaur fossils and footprints up close!
Visitors come out in droves each summer to take advantage of the natural acoustics for concerts. There are ample seats available so attendees can sit close to performers; those on the lawn still get to hear and appreciate the music!
Rock acoustics amp up the sounds of visiting bands and make them pop more than they would at other venues. Because high elevations and winds may alter sound levels, it is recommended that visitors arrive early and choose an optimal spot where their sound experience will be most satisfying.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre offers more than concerts; visitors to its visitor center can see an exhibit showcasing all of the performers who have played there over seven decades. If it suits your schedule, seasonal fitness classes might also be offered at this venue.
Red Rocks Park’s beautiful rock formations, breathtaking vistas and majestic atmosphere will leave you awestruck; even without attending concerts there. Picnicking at Red Rocks is another popular activity. There are various food vendors for picnickers to select from at Red Rocks as well as blanket and chair rentals available to make a visit even more worthwhile.
