Romeo & Juliet: the big winter premiere
Ratmansky’s full-length Romeo & Juliet, set to Prokofiev’s score, is new to the NYCB stage this season. It has 14 performances from Tuesday, January 19 to Sunday, January 31, 2027: evenings at 7:30 PM, Saturday matinees at 2:00 PM on January 23 and 30, and Sunday matinees at 3:00 PM on January 24 and 31. Premieres of a new full-length usually draw the strongest demand of the winter, so opening week and the final weekend are the dates to book first. Picks: opening night, Tue, Jan 19; the first Saturday matinee, Jan 23; the final performance, Sun, Jan 31.
Jewels at 60
Balanchine’s three-part Jewels (Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds) premiered in 1967, and the company brings it back for 5 performances over one weekend: Fri, Feb 12, 7:30 PM; Sat, Feb 13, 2:00 PM; Sat, Feb 13, 7:30 PM; Sun, Feb 14, 2:00 PM; Sun, Feb 14, 7:00 PM. With only five chances, these sell faster than the mixed bills around them.

The season closes with two full-lengths: Peck’s Copland Dance Episodes, set to Aaron Copland, from May 15 to 23, and Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream from May 25 to 30. Full-length ballet or mixed bill?
If you are new to the company, a full-length story ballet is the easiest first night: Romeo & Juliet in January, Jewels in February, or Copland Dance Episodes and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in late May. Mixed bills (the All Balanchine, Contemporary Choreography, Masters at Work and Eclectic programs) are three or four shorter ballets with intermissions, and they are where NYCB shows the range of its repertory, from Balanchine classics to new work. They are also usually the easiest nights to find good seats.
