Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are currently performing across North America for The River Tour, the highest-grossing worldwide tour of 2016. As of July, 1.1 million tickets had been sold. This is the first time Springsteen and the E Street Band have toured in two years. Several new dates have been added to the tour schedule since it was announced in December 2015.

Springsteen and the band are touring in support of The Ties That Bind: The River Collection box set, which was released in 2015. The box set includes The River, which was originally released in 1980, along with several outtakes from the recording sessions.

Many of the shows on the tour included a full-length performance of The River in honor of its 35th anniversary. The tour also includes songs from other albums and some outtakes from The River. Many of the shows on the tour so far have lasted over three and a half hours.

The lineup for The River tour is smaller than the group that performed on previous tours. It does not include a full horn section or backup vocalists. Patti Scialfa will sing backup for some shows.

The first leg of the River tour began in Pittsburgh in January and included stops across North America. It was followed by a European leg before Springsteen and the E Street Band returned to North America, beginning in East Rutherford, New Jersey on August 23.
