Funk legend George Clinton recently announced his upcoming Mardi Gras Madness tour with Parliament Funkadelic. buyTickets.com has tickets available for the shows. Concertgoers can save 5 percent by using the promo code “SAVE” at checkout.

The 10-date tour will begin in Pittsburgh on February 16 and will finish at the Okeechobee Festival in Florida on March 4. The band will perform at a special “Fat Tuesday” celebration on Mardi Gras, February 28, at the B.B. King Blues Club in New York. The idea for the tour came from Nick Szatmari of Universal Attractions Agency, who also produced it.

George Clinton’s Unique Sound and Influence

Clinton’s music blends New Orleans blues, jazz, pop, rock, and gospel. He recorded music in the 1970s under the names Parliament and Funkadelic. His soul music was influenced by several musicians from the late 1960s and created a new genre of music known as funk. His Mothership tour was so influential that a stage prop was included as a permanent installation at the Smithsonian Museum of African American History in Washington, DC.

Clinton and Funkadelic released First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate, a 33-track LP, in 2014. It was the first album released under that name in over 30 years. The remix of the single “Ain’t That Funkin’ Hard on You?” featured performances by Kendrick Lamar and Ice Cube.

Clinton’s music continues to influence contemporary funk, rap, and electronic artists. In 2015, he supplied vocals for “The Lavishments of Light Looking.” It was the first collaboration involving Flying Lotus, Thundercat, and Shabazz Palaces as WOKE. Clinton also co-wrote Kendrick Lamar’s electro-funk single “Wesley’s Theory” on the album To Pimp a Butterfly and provided vocals for the track. Clinton won his first Grammy in 2016 for his contribution to the album.

In August, Clinton was a headliner at the AfroPunk NYC Festival with Tyler, the Creator, and Ice Cube. In September, he performed with Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces, and Thundercat at the Brainfeeder at the Bowl event in Los Angeles.
