Lynyrd Skynyrd News: Biopic Planned & Tickets for Upcoming Concerts

Lynyrd Skynyrd Biopic in the Works

Artimus Pyle, who played drums with Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1974 to 1991 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is working on a biopic about his time with the band. The film will also explore one of the darkest times in the band’s history: the plane crash that took the lives of six people in 1977, including lead singer and Pyle’s close friend Ronnie Van Zant. The plane crashed after it ran out of fuel following a performance in Greenville, South Carolina.

The film is tentatively called Free Bird. It will be about both the plane crash and Pyle’s relationship with Van Zant, whom he considered a genius and who was like a brother to him. Pyle said he wrote the film because he wanted to tell the story of the band members and their love of music.

He wrote the script for the film with Jared Cohn, who will direct. The biopic will be produced by Cleopatra films and is scheduled to go into production later in 2016.

Free Bird is Pyle’s personal story, not an authorized Lynyrd Skynyrd biopic. The producers have not gotten the rights to use the band’s music and are currently planning to use Pyle’s original music.

Lynyrd Skynyrd continued to release albums and tour in spite of the tragedy, and the band is still going strong. buyTickets.com has tickets for upcoming performances by Lynyrd Skynyrd across the United States. Order tickets today to see this iconic band perform live.

buyTickets.com Has Tickets for the Gwen Stefani & Eve Concert Tour

Gwen Stefani is planning a summer and fall tour with rapper Eve in support of her new solo album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, which was released in March and has reached Number One on the Billboard 200. The songs on the album combine upbeat melodies with deeply personal lyrics about her recent divorce from Gavin Rossdale.

Making the New Album

Stefani said in an interview with Rolling Stone published on June 17 that she wanted to make music even before her marriage ended but that the heartbreak provided the inspiration she needed to write the songs. Stefani said she is still coping with the pain of her divorce, even a year later.

Stefani worked on another solo album before this one, but it was never released. She said she was pressured to release new music because she was appearing as a coach on The Voice, but she said the music did not feel right, so she opted not to release the album and to write another instead.

Future of No Doubt

Stefani is not sure what the future will hold for No Doubt. The band’s last album, 2012’s Push and Shove, did not sell well. She said she feels that she and Tony Kanal have grown apart musically. She supports the other band members’ decision to work with Davey Havok from AI.

Collaborations with Blake Shelton and Prince

Stefani said being on The Voice opened her mind to other forms of music. She and her boyfriend, country singer Blake Shelton, recorded a duet.

Stefano also discussed her collaborations with Prince with Rolling Stone. She described him as a genius and said he rewrote one of her songs and played on No Doubt’s album Rock Steady. Stefani also sang on one of Prince’s albums.

Upcoming Tour Schedule with Eve

Gwen Stefani is currently planning a tour of the United States and Canada with Eve. The tour will kick off in Mansfield, Massachusetts on July 12 and will run through October 16 when it will wrap up in Inglewood, California. Order tickets to see three-time Grammy Award-winning artist Gwen Stefani perform live today from buyTickets.com.

Brady’s Bunch: Tom Brady and His Legal Team File for En Banc Rehearing

TomBrady

Deflategate might become synonymous with fighting for the “fundamental rights of American workers,” according to an ESPN article stating that Ted Olson, who leads Tom Brady’s legal team, is filing for an en banc rehearing of his four-game suspension. That means that all the judges of the 2nd Circuit Court are requested to rehear the case together. Whether or not it will happen remains to be seen, but Lester Munson, Legal Analyst writing for ESPN, speculates that Brady and his bunch of lawyers and scholars have a bigger goal in mind—the Supreme Court.

Deflategate in the Supreme Court

Why the speculation that Brady might be trying to stand before the highest court in the United States? One reason may be that Olson has garnered several amicus briefs—think of them like letters from a friend in one’s defense. According to Munson, this is common in the Supreme Court but not in lower courts. The argument, according to Olson, is not really about the suspension anymore. Focus has shifted to labor arbitration, and this is another reason Munson speculates that this case is headed for the Supreme Court.

2016 NFL and Tom Brady

Perhaps the 2nd Circuit Court will rehear the case. Perhaps enough of them (four of eight) will decide to rule in Brady’s favor. If this happens, Brady might get to play for the entirety of the 2016 NFL season. Olson is arguing that Goodell made some errors, which include destroying Brady’s cell phone in the course of the Deflategate investigation.

If the 2nd Circuit Court elects not to rehear the case, or if they rehear it and do not overturn the previous ruling, we might in fact see Tom Brady marching his team of lawyers, scholars, professors, and engineers up the steps of the Supreme Court.

Regardless of where this case is finally decided, Patriots fans and fans of the NFL in general can count on one thing: great discounts on NFL tickets from buyTickets.com. All you have to do is use the promo code “FOOTBALL” to save. Tickets are on sale now for the upcoming 2016 NFL season.

Maren Morris Releases Major Label Debut Album and Plans to Tour with Keith Urban

Maren Morris - BuyTickets

Maren Morris is a 26-year-old up-and-coming country music singer and songwriter who has already been working in the music business for 15 years. She will soon be opening on tour for Keith Urban and just released her major label debut album, Hero, on June 3.

She enjoys a blend of classic country music inspired by legends such as Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, as well as 1990s pop by artists like Ginuwine. Morris is inspired by the diversity of musical styles and points of view in country music today.

Breaking into the Music Business

Morris grew up in Arlington, Texas and gained confidence at an early age through singing and performing in her community. She began performing in clubs and honky-tonks at the age of 11 and released her first independent album, Walk On, when she was 15. It was followed by All That It Takes in 2007 and Live Wire in 2011. By the time she turned 21, Morris had been touring across the state of Texas for a decade.

Becoming a Professional Songwriter

Morris visited Kacey Musgraves in Nashville several years ago and was inspired to try to become a professional songwriter. She saved money and moved to Nashville three years ago to pursue a songwriting career. She wrote songs for artists such as Tim McGraw and Kelly Clarkson, but her publisher had trouble figuring out how to pitch many of her songs because they were so unique to her and her experiences.

Morris’ breakthrough hit, “My Church,” is about redemption through the power of the radio. Morris released a five-song EP, Maren Morris, last year. The album was downloaded 2 million times, thanks in large part to frequent playing of “My Church” on country radio stations across the country.

See Maren Morris on Tour with Keith Urban and Brett Eldredge

Maren Morris will be performing with Keith Urban and Brett Eldredge from June 11 through November 19, with concerts planned at venues across the United States. If you would like to see this young country star on a major tour, don’t delay; reserve your tickets from buyTickets today.

Paul McCartney Shares Memories in Virtual Reality Series

Paul McCartney live in Dublin

Former Beatle Paul McCartney is bringing some of his classic hits to life and sharing insights with fans in a new way through virtual reality technology. He is the subject of six virtual reality mini-documentaries created to promote his new 67-song retrospective album PURE McCartney, which is scheduled to be released on June 10.

Paul McCartney Shares His Thoughts on Music

The interviews took place at his home studio in the United Kingdom and were produced by Jaunt Studios, a startup based in Palo Alto, California. Jaunt Studios’ first cinematic virtual reality project was a clip of McCartney performing “Live and Let Die” in concert in November 2014 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The videos are sponsored by the British Tourist Authority and directed by Tony Kaye, a Grammy Award winner for music video direction. This is Kaye’s first virtual reality project.

In the interviews, McCartney talks about his creative process and memories from his career. The clips are brought to life with images of chords, the ocean, art, and stars.

The first two segments were released on May 31. In them, McCartney talks about creating his 2007 solo album Dance Tonight and “Coming Up,” a 1980 hit with his band Wings. The films are between three and 11 minutes long and can be viewed as 360-degree videos on Jaunt’s website or in virtual reality through its Android and iOS mobile app. In other interviews, McCartney discusses his relationship with fellow Beatle John Lennon and reflects on the day following the death of Beatles producer George Martin.

The 1978 song “Mull of Kintyre” is the first by McCartney that was remixed with Dolby Atmos, technology that is generally used for home theater sound. The other songs featured in the VR films include “My Valentine” and “Early Days.”

The Growth of Virtual Reality

Virtual reality technology is becoming increasingly popular. Consumers can choose from smartphone-based systems, such as Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR, and computer-based systems such as Oculus Rift. Google just announced a new platform called Daydream that can improve the visual quality of virtual reality using smartphones. People who use the technology for games are benefiting the most.

Industry experts expect that sports and entertainment will be the most popular avenues for non-gaming VR. Some VR studios have signed deals with professional sports leagues and concert promoters to create virtual reality entertainment. Digi-Capital, an advisor to the virtual reality industry, predicts that in 2020, 20 percent of the virtual reality industry’s estimated $30 billion in revenue will come from video content. This will be surpassed only by games and hardware.

Brian Wilson Tours to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Pet Sounds

The Beach Boys (1965)
By Capitol Records (Billboard, page 73, 11 September 1965) [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons
The Beach Boys’ iconic album, Pet Sounds, was released in 1966 and went on to become a classic. Brian Wilson, the driving force behind the project, is marking its 50th anniversary with a tour that is scheduled to continue through the fall.

Wilson took a long break from music and then began performing Pet Sounds live in its entirety in 2001 to overwhelmingly positive reactions from reviewers and fans. He is currently performing with an 11-piece band that includes Al Jardine, an original member of the Beach Boys; his son, Matt; and Blondie Chaplin. They are performing songs from Pet Sounds, as well as Beach Boys hits from before and after the album was released.

Pet Sounds was a radical departure from the Beach Boys’ previous work. It was an album dealing with powerful emotions that combined musical genres in a way that other artists had not attempted. Pet Sounds explores feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and guilt and Wilson’s hope that music could help heal him.

Wilson wrote much of the music for Pet Sounds himself and recorded it with help from session musicians. He collaborated with advertising copywriter Tony Asher, who wrote many of the lyrics with inspiration and guidance from Wilson.

The album includes instruments that were seldom used on rock and roll albums and even some things that were not instruments at all, such as cans and bottles that were used for percussion. Wilson recorded dogs barking and even considered bringing a horse into the studio.

Pet Sounds took 10 months to record and cost $70,000 to produce, making it one of the most expensive albums that had ever been recorded at that time. When Wilson presented Pet Sounds to Capitol Records, executives were disappointed that it did not follow the “fun in the sun” formula of the Beach Boys’ previous hits. Capitol Records was not behind the album and decided to promote a greatest hits compilation instead, to Wilson’s disappointment.

Pet Sounds inspired many other musicians, including the Beatles. Their producer, George Martin, said Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band never would have been recorded without Pet Sounds.

Brian Wilson is currently touring across the United States and performing Pet Sounds live. You can see this legendary artist perform his classic album live by ordering tickets from buyTickets.com. Reserve your seats today.

Cable Car Named after Giants Hall of Famer Willie Mays

Barack Obama with Willie Mays
By The White House (P071409PS-0556) [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons
Willie Mays, the former Giants center fielder and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, received a new honor on Friday, May 6, his 85th birthday. One of San Francisco’s famous cable cars was named after him.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s director of transportation, Ed Reiskin, said both Mays and the city’s cable cars are iconic. He believes naming one of the cable cars after the Hall of Famer was a fitting tribute. The cable car named after Mays was No. 24, which is his old jersey number that the Giants have retired.

Cable car No. 24 was originally constructed in 1887 and was rebuilt by Muni craft workers in 1958. That was the same year that Mays and the Giants moved west from New York to San Francisco. The cable car represented the city at the Chicago Railroad Fair in 1948 and in Los Angeles in 1950.

Malcolm Heinicke, Mays’ friend and lawyer, came up with the idea to name the cable car after Mays after riding on the car with his son, Al, who noted that the cable car had the same number as Mays’ old jersey. Heinicke suggested naming the car after Mays to Mayor Ed Lee at the Giants’ World Series celebration that was held at the White House this June.

President Obama sent a videotaped speech praising Mays for his accomplishments on the field. Mays played in 24 All-Star Games and was named Most Valuable Player twice. Obama presented Mays with the Presidential Medal of Freedom last year.

Mays took a ride on the newly dedicated cable car along with several city officials and other dignitaries. He spoke before the dedication and became emotional as he thanked many people for the good things they have done for him. Fans lined up to have their pictures taken with Mays.

Although Willie Mays is retired, the San Francisco Giants are still playing baseball. You can see them or another sports team compete in person. buyTickets.com sells tickets to Major League Baseball games and other professional football, basketball, hockey, and soccer games. We have tickets to see the San Francisco Giants or your other favorite sports team compete. buyTickets.com also has seats available for concerts by many famous musicians and theatrical performances. The Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is held every year in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The bands who perform at the event represent diverse musical genres, including indie rock, alternative rock, hip hop, and electronica.

This year’s festival will be held from August 7 to 9. The event will be headlined by Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, and Lionel Richie. J. Cole, Zedd, Lana Del Rey, Ryan Adams and the Shining, Major Lazer, and dozens of other acts will also perform over three days.

The festival has attractions that focus on food, wine, and art. At a “Wine Lands” part of the festival, attendees can sample wine from several vendors. Food and art vendors sell their creations to festival guests. Other forms of entertainment are offered, including a sports lounge, an arcade, and a bar.

The Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival was created in part to promote environmental protection and preservation. The festival strives to be eco-friendly and to educate the public about environmental movements. Organizers have spearheaded several initiatives intended to make the event eco-friendly. For example, the organizers encourage attendees to use public transportation to get to the event. The festival has solar-powered stages, a refillable water program, recycling and waste diversion programs, and bike valet parking. The festival has also held workshops to teach people about organic food and farming.

The first Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival was held from August 22 to 24, 2008. It featured more than 60 musical acts from around the world performing on several stages, as well as a series of art installations. The original festival attracted 40,000 to 60,000 people per day and was successful.

The second festival was held the following August. It was streamed live via the festival’s YouTube account. The festival is produced by Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly Presents, and Starr Hill Presents.

Beyoncé Flash-Released New Album, Lemonade, on April 23

BEYONCE CONCERT IN CENTRAL PARK 2011 Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series - Central Park, Manhattan NYC - 070111
By Asterio Tecson [CC BY-SA 2.0], via Wikimedia Commons
Pop singer Beyoncé flash-released her new album, Lemonade, on the evening of Saturday, April 23. The album explores discord in her relationship with husband Jay Z, a variety of feelings, female solidarity, and reconciliation.

Lemonade was released right after HBO aired the one-hour “visual album” version. The video combined the songs with poetry written by Somali-British author Warsan Shire, images of women and families, and Beyoncé in both glamorous and unglamorous outfits and poses. She also released a full-length video to accompany her album Beyoncé, which was released in 2013.

Beyoncé was able to release a streamed album and be guaranteed an audience because of her superstar status. She was not constrained by the traditional demands of producing an album intended for radio. Fans can stream the entire album at once, rather than being introduced to it by one single.

The album showcases Beyoncé’s versatility. It includes a brass band, blues-rock, and R&B. Beyoncé collaborated with a series of other artists on Lemonade, including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Father John Misty, Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, Jack White, and James Blake. Beyoncé’s single “Formation” is the last song on Lemonade, but it is not in the extended video. On “Freedom,” Beyoncé mixes preaching, a prison song, a rap, and 1960s fuzz-tone psychedelia.

Even though the album addresses problems in her marriage, it is by no means an indication that Beyoncé and Jay Z are heading for divorce. The album lists the singer, songwriter, and director as Beyoncé Knowles Carter. Additionally, the songs on Lemonade ultimately trend toward reconciliation between Beyoncé and Jay Z.

The title of the album comes from a comment made by Jay Z’s grandmother at her 90th birthday party. She said she was served lemons but made lemonade. buyTickets.com has tickets to see Beyoncé perform at upcoming concerts on her Formation World Tour. You can watch her perform new songs from Lemonade, as well as many other hits. Order your tickets today.
